Water Treatment, Storage, Distribution and more for Schools
Sustainable Solutions for Schools
School buildings today are designed to remain in service for a significant number of years. It only makes sense for the utilities servicing the school building to have an equivalent life cycle.
Schools, from elementary schools to universities, use a lot of water. Schools require water for heating and cooling systems, restrooms, drinking water faucets, locker rooms, cafeterias, laboratories, on outdoor playing fields, and for landscaping. These water demands require a potable water storage, treatment, and distribution system. The byproduct of these water demands requires a wastewater treatment and disposal system. Beyond these systems, schools must also provide a fire suppression storage and distribution system.
In the past all of the above water systems would have utilized lined or coated concrete, steel or fiberglass vessels. These vessels were not used because they were the right material but because they were the only available materials. These materials require significant maintenance, are prone to corrosion and leakage, and have life spans which are less than that of the school buildings themselves. Just as the education system has evolved so has the plastics industry. It has been a well-known fact for years that polyethylene plastics are the ideal material for storing both potable water and wastewater. The advent of structurally reinforced thermoplastics (SRTP) has now made available large volume high-density polyethylene vessels for these systems. These materials are non-corrosive, non-abrasive and have an anticipated life cycle of approximately one hundred years. Apptech has developed innovative and sustainable SRPT based potable water, fire suppression and wastewater treatment systems ideal for schools.
Frederick County Middle School, located in Virginia, is a prime example of a school system implementing sustainable infrastructure. The school implemented the only truly sustainable solutions on the market, an Apptech AquavolveTM potable water system, an Apptech Fortress TM fire suppression system and an Apptech Inceptor TM wastewater treatment system.
